Chassis #3198 is confirmed by Lamborghini’s factory records as the first ever as ‘GD’ (guida destra or right-hand drive Miura) and listed as ‘Salone Londra’, the London Motor Show car for 1967.
The first owner of this Miura was Thomas Cook (of the travel company family) of Norwich, who saw the car at the ’67 London Motor Show and wanted it to be supplied in his chosen specification. At the show, the car was finished in Blue over White (as pictured in the recently published Miura Book), but Mr. Cook specified the car in its current combination of Rosso Miura with Silver lower section over Nero trim with Nero wheel spinners.
After the car was returned to Sant’Agata to be refinished, #3198 was then supplied to Mr. Cook through the British Lamborghini Importers of London. The car was supplied on a Norfolk registration of OPW 8F, which is still wears to this day.
After several years of enjoyment, the Miura was then sold by the Cook family through Coombes of Guildford to RJ Freeman of Send, Surrey who ran Vision Engineering. In the 1970s the car was then sold by Mr. Freeman to Captain Proctor, in Spalding, Lincs, who had changed the colour from orange to red via a firm near Downham Market in Norfolk, leaving the interior in its original Nero.
In September of 1981, the car Miura was acquired from Mr. Proctor by Cosworth engineer Neil Lefley who would own the car until 2001, using it regularly. Mr. Lefley would show the car in the paddock at Silverstone in 1987 amongst several other notable events in the 80s and 90s.
In the early 00s, the #3198 was now owned by a Lamborghini collector in Hertfordshire, at which point it was inspected by Valentino Balboni for factory certification (records on file). This owner would also display the Miura in 2010 in the Rotunda of the Royal Automobile Club, Pall Mall, London.
In addition to its extensive UK ownership history and servicing documentation, this Miura has also benefitted from comprehensive recent maintenance and restoration works. In 2013, marque specialist Colin Clarke carried out an extensive mechanical overhaul on the vehicle. This was further complemented by a complete nut and bolt cosmetic restoration by another noted specialist in 2018/19, ensuring that #3198 is one of the finest Miuras in terms of condition and provenance available today.
A full matching numbers and colours example, this Miura also benefits from its original order and sales form, Lamborghini factory documentation and extensive service invoices and MOT certificates all accompanying the car. This is a unique opportunity to purchase the first right-hand drive Miura produced and one that sits in the very finest condition in all regards.
