Lamborghini Islero – Complete Restoration By Furlonger

The Lamborghini Islero GT made its debut at the 1968 Geneva Motor Show as the replacement for the 400 GT. As Carrozzeria Touring were no longer in business, Ferruccio Lamborghini entrusted a team of ex-Touring employees headed by Mario Marazzi to design the Islero. In fact, the Islero is widely believed to be one of Ferruccio’s favourite creations, being his daily driver in period.

Chassis 6177 was supplied new to the Swiss market as a LHD example in 1968 before being exported early in its life to the USA; a common journey for many Isleros in period.

Once arriving in the States, it is believed that the long-term owner of this Islero GT had the car disassembled in the 1980s in preparation for a restoration on the car. However, he passed suddenly not long after, meaning the car remained stripped for many years before being sold as part of his estate. At this point, marque expert Gary Bobileff did carry out restoration works before 6177 travelled back to Europe in the late 1990s and eventually heading to the UK in 2004.

Upon purchasing 6177, the current owner decided that he wished to carry out a comprehensive restoration on the vehicle and entrusted us to carry out the project from inception to conclusion. Furlonger have stripped the vehicle entirely and faithfully restored every element of 6177 to the very finest of detail. Each mechanical component has been removed, inspected and renewed to original specifications which has been complemented by a complete bare metal respray and interior retrim.

At the start of the project, this Islero was finished in Rosso, however the owner decided the car to be refinished in the period combination of Verde Metallizzato over Tan, in homage to the Islero of Ferruccio’s brother, Edmondo Lamborghini. The end result is quite simply the finest Islero that is available today; in terms of condition, performance, colour scheme and provenance and we are honoured to be able to bring the car to market on behalf of the owner who commissioned the restoration.

With the complete process being carried out in-house, we have endless photographs, invoices and stories of the full project and would be thrilled to share these details with any prospective new owner. Being a homage to Edmondo’s vehicle, this Islero would complement and improve even the finest of Lamborghini collections, with its useable nature only serving to enhance its appeal.
