This Jaguar E-Type Series 1 Roadster was first delivered to the UK market in November 1961 via Weybridge Automobiles, first registered to the Relay Exchanges LTD of Swindon, owned by the late Diana Dors father (now defunct). The E-Type was optioned in Opalescent Dark Blue over Grey trim and delivered with the registration ‘736 WPC’, the same registration it still retains to the present day.
After being purchased by Mr G. D. Kenyon of Andover, like many E Types, the car underwent a ‘metal up’ restoration in the early 80’s and received a colour change which has been documented in a small photo file within the car’s extensive history file. During the restoration and colour change to Red the Jaguars engine, drivetrain and suspension were also comprehensively overhauled (photos available upon request).
The car then changed hands to a Mr I. Worley who kept the car for a short period before being sold to a Mr G. Holmes Esq of Surrey in 1985, purchased via Romans of Woking LTD. Mr Holmes enjoyed the E Type for 5 years, then passing ownership to its 4th keeper, a Mr R. Davis, who went on to own the car until 2018.
Mr R. Davis, an avid motor enthusiast, was a proud member of the International Jaguar E Type Register and Jaguar Drivers Club. Mr Davis would often enter the car into the tours and track events, such as the Prescott Hill Cavalcade, Haynes RACMSA Classic, RAC Classic Run and Rotary Club of Beachy Head Concours. Present within the cars history file are numerous letters of correspondence between Mr Davis and the organisers of said events as well as a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate for chassis #850241. Over the course of Mr Davis’s lengthy ownership of the car, he compiled each invoice, MOT certificate and any other relevant documentation to the existing history.
In 2018 the car was purchased by a prominent collector who commissioned Marque specialists to carry out a comprehensive, no expense spared restoration back to its original specification of Opalescent Dark Blue. The entire car was overhauled from the ground up, retaining its original matching number chassis, engine, gearbox and body. The car’s interior was beautifully retrimmed in ‘Biscuit’ leather, accompanying that of the Blue exterior extremely well. The restoration was completed in January of 2021 before being meticulously road tested and delivered to its current custodian.
A spectacularly presented example, freshly restored with no expense spared, ready to sit among a fine collection.
