The only factory-built right-hand drive EB110
When Romano Artioli revived Bugatti in the late 1980s, he set out to build the most advanced supercar in the world. Unveiled in September 1991, 110 years after the birth of Ettore Bugatti, the EB110 delivered just that: a carbon-fibre chassis, a Gandini-penned body, a 3.5-litre V12 with five valves per cylinder and four turbochargers, and permanent four-wheel drive. Six months later came the Supersport, with 610hp, carbon-kevlar panels that cut around 150kg, a fixed rear wing and the famous circular vents behind the side windows. It was good for a reported 221mph, and at the time it was the fastest production car in the world.
With Michael Schumacher among its clients and demand growing in Britain and other right-hand drive markets, Bugatti’s next step was a right-hand drive car. The factory set aside chassis 39055 to develop it. Built as a factory prototype, 39055 combined GT and Supersport features. It has a mirrored, carbon-trimmed dashboard, Supersport Recaro bucket seats paired with the GT glovebox, and, most significantly, a prototype Supersport engine from new.
Finished in Grigio Chiaro with a Dark Blue interior, 39055 was unveiled to the public on 18th October 1994 at the British Motor Show in Birmingham. The accompanying factory press release, which remains with the car, announced right-hand drive for “the world’s fastest production car”.
After the show, 39055 went back to Campogalliano and continued as a development car for the Supersport in the British and Asian markets. A year later, stretched by the purchase of Lotus and the development of the four-door EB112, Bugatti was declared bankrupt.
In the dispersal that followed, 39055 was bought by former Vice-Chairman Jean-Marc Borel, whose newly formed B-Engineering carried the EB110’s legacy forward. The car later passed to its first private keeper, who sent it to Dauer for extensive works that were completed in 2005.
The car has now been through a painstaking two-year programme in our workshop, returning it to the specification in which it was first shown in 1994. That meant undoing the later modifications, including refitting the correct rear bumper and boot lid, original-style seats and the correct exhaust system. Finer details were also put right, such as the correct shade of badges and the period-correct radio. Alongside this, the car received a complete mechanical recommissioning. The result is an EB110 that presents just as it did on the Birmingham stand more than thirty years ago.
The car made its debut in this form at Salon Privé 2026 at Blenheim Palace. It won its class and was awarded the Prix d’Honneur, and judge Richard Hammond called it “the standout” and “a worthy winner”.
Chassis 39055 comes with its period warranty and service booklet, factory literature, the original 1994 press release and an interesting history file. It is a true one-of-one, and the only way to own Bugatti’s first quad-turbo supercar in right-hand drive.
