Porsche 911s of the early 1970s are one of the most iconic and beautiful sports cars ever produced; a design that would be pioneered by the 2.7 RS. However, following jumps in value and rarity, the 2.4 litre siblings of the RS have become incredibly sought after in recent years, offered in E, S and T guise.
The car presented is a beautiful 911T 2.4, making it an extremely late and desirable carburettor example, with the majority of 911s by the early 70s now using fuel injection. Completed on the 1st November 1971 (although 1972 model type), this 2.4 was supplied new through Porsche AG Hamburg, Germany.
Being a 1972 model year example, this 911T is one of the very last 2.4-engined 911s produced before Porsche moved on to the less desirable ‘impact bumper’ cars of the mid-70s. Further, being ’72 car, this 911T comes with the rare and sought after external oil filler cap or ‘Olklappe’ that was only present in cars of this year
As confirmed by its Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this 911 is still finished in its stunning original combination of Light Yellow with Black script over Black leatherette and is one of the very finest examples available today.
First registered in the UK in August 1982, this 911 has enjoyed just a hand full of owners in the past 36 years, with a Mark Higham owning it for 24 years from 1988 – 2012. Unlike the many early 70s 911s being supplied or exported to the USA, this European-supplied example is presented with an impressive history file including a full engine rebuild in 1989 showing just over 85,000 KM, with the car now showing just over 93,500 KM.
In more recent years, this stunning 911 T has enjoyed exceptional restoration work from UK specialists, including a full respray in the original Light Yellow, of which we have a full photographic record on file and desirable upgrades to ‘S’ specification.
When the current owner purchased the vehicle to add to his collection, it was sent to Porsche GB, Reading for a complete mechanical appraisal with maintenance and overhaul where required. Works included the fitment of a new fuel tank, rebuild of carburettors, new electrical components fitted where required including wiring looms and underseal to complete underbody and wheel arches. This was followed by extensive road testing, geometry and tuning to ensure that this 911 is running at its absolute finest.
Porsche GB also confirmed that this 2.4T still retains its matching numbers engine as confirmed by its Certificate of Authenticity.
Late carburettor 911s are becoming both more sought after by the day, with matching-numbers EU cars at a real premium in the market. This 911 2.4T benefits from exceptional provenance and recent work by Porsche GB, and is not to confused with non-matching US examples without any history. With classic Porsches continuing to go from strength to strength in the market, this is a magnificent opportunity to purchase one of the finest late carburettor 911s available today.
