This presents a timely opportunity to own what is arguably one of the most collectible V12 cars from Ferraris lightweight special series lineup, wearing a highly desirable specification with numerous special options and featuring a notable, historic racing livery.
The name ”GTO” has been designated to only 3 cars in Ferrari history, the 1962 250 GTO, the 1984 288 GTO and finally their most recent of the trio, the 599 GTO. The ”GTO” badge symbolises more than just initials, ‘Gran Turismo Omologata’ which translates to ‘High Performance Homologation’ is recognised for its presence across various GT racing events throughout the 60’s while the 250 GTO was making its mark within motoring history. The badge then resurfaced in the 80’s as Ferrari embarked on creating a Group B rally car, the 288 GTO, which was subsequently then delivered as a road car in limited numbers after the Group B program was scrapped.
Today, the GTO badge represents not only a historic and reputable league of race cars but a road car with track focused qualities. Effectively the GTO is the first of its kind, no other V12 Ferrari road car prior to this one had utilized the benefits of weight saving or aerodynamics so extremely. The GTO weighs 100kg less than the standard car and had design revisions including the front, the sides, the flat underbody and the cooling flows. The GTO was also equipped with improved carbon ceramic brakes which were supported by ducting to cool both them and the brake pads, along with wheel doughnuts which were positioned outside the brake disc to ensure that hot air exiting the wheel arch stays as close to the body of the car as possible to reduce drag. The GTO was also equipped with the final version of the F1 Superfast gearbox, which by todays standard is still incredible given its impressive shift times which resemble similarity to that of a dual clutch gearbox. The GTO is of course equipped with the same engine as the GTB but due to various tuning applications produced a whopping 660 horsepower. This in combination with the cars other aggressive qualities enabled the GTO to go from 0 to 60 in an eye watering 3.35 seconds.
