Lamborghini DIablo SV-VVT 1998

Sold

Furlonger are extremely pleased to offer this UK supplied Lamborghini Diablo SV-VVT, finished in the desirable combination of Blue Scuro over Snowcorn hide.

The spectacular car offered today was delivered new in 1998 by Lamborghini G.B of Reading and believed to be one of just three in such a remarkable specification. Around 250 Lamborghini Diablo SV‘s were built between 1995 -1998 and only 50 were made in right hand drive.

This stunning Diablo SV has only been publically displayed once and was a highly acclaimed award winner at the 2016 Salon Privé Diablo Tribute Pirelli Prestige & Performance Competition (trophy present with car) judged by Polo Storico Lamborghini as the best Diablo SV on show.

The Diablo SV is without a doubt one of the most astonishing cars to come out of the 90’s 200mph supercar race and stands as one of Lamborghini’s most distinguishable flagship models. This exceptional example poses an opportunity to purchase a very rare, manual, exceptional investment, finished in a fantastic specification.

The market for this original pop up headlight supercars will continue to grow as the demand and significance of the Lamborghini Diablo in the history of 20th century supercars becomes more prominent. Fewer and fewer low mileage supercars of a similar vintage are as collectable and affordable. Many consider the Diablo SV as the last of the original designs by Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A.

Present with the car is its original leather book pack, stamped service handbook, owners handbook and manual, sales and service directory and supporting invoices. Previously supplied by Furlonger to its current keeper in 2015, the car has covered a mere 400 km during this ownership and is presented today in the same outstanding condition throughout.

Continuing the tradition of naming their outrageous supercars after that of bull fighting breeds, 1990 saw the debut of the formidable Diablo, or ‘Devil’ in Spanish. Rightly named after a ferocious bull raised by the Duke of Veragua in the 19th century, famous for an epic battle with ‘El Chicorro’ which took place in Madrid in 1869.

The Diablo’s initial design was of course penned by that of Marcello Gandini, a name synonymous within the Lamborghini realm most notable for the design of the legendary Miura and the sharp edged Countach. After some review and an extensive redesign to adopt smoother edges, the Countach’s hugely anticipated successor, the Diablo took the world by storm.

The Diablo SV’s power came from a 5.7L engine with dual overhead camshafts, 4 valves per cylinder and computer operated multi-point fuel injection. A monstrous total of 485 horsepower meant that the Diablo could reach 60 miles per hour in 4.5 seconds and climb to an intimidating 202mph.

During the course of the Diablo’s production, which lasted for 11 years, a number of different versions were built ranging from the rear wheel drive base model a series of limited roadsters and special editions. Among these was arguably the most notable marque of Diablo, the SV – abbreviated for ‘Super Veloce’ or in English ‘Super-Fast’. Its introduction in 1995 at the Geneva saw a welcoming reception and like that of the Miura SV, the Diablo’s version had multiple changes to improve performance.

The car now possessed 530 horsepower and an adjustable rear wing as standard to add downforce. Other changes to the exterior included black tail lamp surrounds, repositioned rear fog and reverse lamps as on the SE30, dual front fog lamps as oppose to the generic quad style which was found on all rear models, an extra set of front brake cooling ducts, a ducted engine lid similar to that installed on the SE30 Jota and the optional ‘’SV decals for the sides of the car. The SV also featured larger diameter front brakes and a corresponding increase in front wheel size to 18 inches. Audi went on to give the Diablo a mid-cycle facelift in 1999 when pop-up headlights where deemed too dangerous by new European safety standards.
